Hosanna!

Hosanna is a significant biblical word, most famously shouted by the crowds during Jesus' Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem (what we now call Palm Sunday). This event occurred just days before His crucifixion and is described in all four Gospels. Hosanna comes from Hebrew: hoshiya na (or hoshi'a na), a combination of yasha ("to save" or "deliver") and na ("please" or "we beseech"). Literally, it means "Save us, please!" or "Save now, we pray!" — originally a plea for deliverance or salvation.

• Matthew 21:9 (NKJV): "Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: 'Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD! Hosanna in the highest!'"

• Mark 11:9–10 (NKJV): "Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: 'Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD! Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that comes in the name of the LORD! Hosanna in the highest!'"

• John 12:13 (NKJV): "They took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: 'Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD, the King of Israel!'"
